San Diego Padres RHP Ha-Sung Kim, 28, missed his second straight game with abdominal pain.
Kim is out of the starting lineup for the Padres’ home game against the Colorado Rockies on April 19 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Kim is not on the disabled list, but has been sidelined with unexplained abdominal pain. San Diego manager Bob Melvin said he was dealing with “abdominal pain.” “The medical staff is working to determine the cause,” 굿모닝토토.
This is the second consecutive game that Kim has missed since the Oakland game on April 18. He went 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk, and a run scored in a 5-2 win over the Oakland Athletics on April 17. However, he was suddenly removed from the starting lineup before the game against Oakland on the 18th.
“He was complaining of abdominal pain, and he was pretty uncomfortable,” Melvin said. “He’s had a checkup and it’s not appendicitis, but we’re not sure what’s causing the pain. He had blood tests done and is waiting for the results.
Kim told the San Diego Union-Tribune, “According to the doctors, it’s not a big deal. I’ve been feeling similar for a few days. I’m still waiting for the medical team’s judgment.”
A prolonged absence due to abdominal pain would also hamper Kim’s chances of breaking the record. Kim is attempting to become the first Asian player in Major League Baseball to hit 20 home runs and 40 doubles. He currently has 17 home runs and 36 doubles.
In his third year in the majors, Kim hit well, ran well, batted leadoff and was San Diego’s “offensive sparkplug. In 143 games, he’s batting .356 with 17 home runs, 58 RBI, 81 runs scored, 36 stolen bases, a .407 on-base percentage, and a .763 OPS. He’s three home runs and four stolen bases away from the milestone.
He’s well within reach with a normal schedule, but his health has been a factor. The Dodgers have 11 games left to play after the 19th. Even if he plays all 11 games, he still needs to add three more home runs and four more stolen bases, which could be difficult if he misses a lot of time.
“It’s unfortunate that it happened at this point and I don’t feel good,” Kim told the media. On top of that, Kim hasn’t been hitting well in his last seven games, going 1-for-7 in those games. In his last 15 games, he is 1-for-9, which is less than two percent. He has added seven stolen bases in his last 15 games, but no home runs.
It remains to be seen if Kim will be able to return to the field in the next game without any health issues and if he will be able to reach the milestone in the rest of the schedule.
