The Kiwoom Heroes edged out the Lotte Giants in a close game. Lim Byung-wook’s two-run homer was the game-winner.
Lim Byung-wook batted eighth 메이저사이트 and started in right field against Lotte in the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Gocheok Sky Dome on Tuesday, going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, two RBIs, two walks and three runs scored in an all-around performance.
With his team trailing 4-1 and two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Lim blasted a 123-kilometer curveball off Lotte starter Park Se-woong for a game-winning two-run home run. It was his fifth home run of the season.
After the game, Lim said of his home run, “I felt good, but the game wasn’t over yet. “In the second team, I talked to the coaches and practiced hitting the middle of the strike zone. I saw a curveball up the middle and it went over. It was my first home run in a long time.”
Lim, who retired from the military last September, is playing in the first team for the first time in three seasons since 2020. “My position has changed. My childhood is over and I’m older. It’s been 10 years since my debut, and there are many juniors,” he said.
After joining Nexen (now Kiwoom) in the first round of the 2014 draft, Lim attracted a lot of attention as a five-tool player who could play offense, defense, and running. However, after joining the organization, he was plagued by numerous injuries that prevented him from reaching his full potential. Aside from 2018 (batting .293 in 134 games), he hasn’t had a breakout season.
This year, he played in 67 games and hit .261 with five home runs and 29 RBIs. He’s been hot in August, with a 4-for-4 record.
“I’m always trying to be a player when I play,” said Lim. “There are players from other teams on the team now, and I think today’s game gave me the feeling that the remaining franchise players are healthy,” he said, “I feel good hitting. I’m trying to do well every time I go out there,” he said.
“We had a bad play on defense in the first inning, and I would call it tenacity. I was more motivated to catch the ball, but if the fans saw it as my best effort, I think it was fine.”
