Thai national soccer team right back Sasalak Hyprakorn, who was the victim of a racist attack by members of the Ulsan Hyundai squad, has opened up about his feelings on social media for the first time.

Ulsan’s Park Yong-woo and Lee Kyu-sung sparked a racism controversy when they made inappropriate comments about Lee Myung-jae on social media last night. They referred to Lee Myung-jae’s dark skin color as a Southeast Asian quota and even mentioned the name of Thai international Sasalak, who briefly played for Jeonbuk Hyundai.

News of the incident quickly spread across South Korea and Southeast Asia, with racist messages appearing on the official social media accounts of both Jeonbuk Hyundai and the Thai national soccer team, where Sasalak played and currently plays. Ulsan Hyundai, the team of Park Yong-woo and others, also apologized on their official social media accounts.

We couldn’t help but wonder how the “victim” Sasalak would react, but his response to Thai media made us even more embarrassed for the Ulsan players who caused the problem with their thoughtless words.

“No one knows what we went through,” Sasalak said, adding, “I’ve heard a lot of harsh words, but I’ve never cared about those people. I know that there are still people who love me, people who are still waiting for me,” he said, referring to the fans who still support him.

“They knew what I had to fight for, they were always proud of me, and I’ve always been proud of myself. I’ve never once said I’m good, but I’m proud 안전놀이터 of myself for fighting until today. For that alone, I’m grateful to myself for always being by my side, and to my fans for loving me. This is enough for me,” he said. He also posted a photo of his family watching the K League in Jeonbuk jerseys in his hometown in Thailand when he was playing for Jeonbuk.

Meanwhile, the KFA has demanded a statement of explanation from Ulsan, kicking off the punishment committee process. Under the rules, a ten-match suspension is possible. The Korean Football Association is also watching the situation closely.

Park Yong-woo is currently with the South Korean national soccer team. According to an official from the KFA, the national team”s coaching staff, including head coach Jürgen Klinsmann, are aware of this. While the team hasn’t had a chance to meet with the player since he was called up for his first training session, it’s not out of the question that something will happen soon. Park Yong-woo focused on recovery training with his teammates, who played in the K League over the weekend.
